Jackson County is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Ranging in elevation from 2,000 feet to more than 6,000 feet, the county's 491 square miles feature spectacular scenery and abundant opportunities for outdoor adventure. Nine schools with more than 3,700 students and nearly 300 certified teachers take pride in the 150-year history, tradition, and success of the local school district.
Despite our rural location, we are not isolated. Jackson County is centrally located between Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Knoxville, TN. and, Asheville NC is a pleasant one-hour drive away.
Post-secondary education is locally available from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee and Southwestern Community College in Sylva. Both institutions are well-respected and have been recognized nationally for their excellence.
